Beginner hikers are advised to stick to the well marked, shorter hiking trails. For rock climbers, the gorge is a wonderful, natural playground to hone rock climbing skills. Popular areas for climbing are Table Rock, The Amphitheatre, The North Carolina Wall, Shortoff Mountain, Hawksbill Mountain, and Gold Coast Cliffs. Sometimes, however, climbing is not allowed, and the areas close due to the nesting of rare Peregrine Falcons. Hunting however, is allowed, in season, and game animals like deer and turkey thrive in abundance. Hunters are asked to follow the guidelines and state regulations put forth by the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission. Also, fishermen love the Linville Gorge NC for its enormous fishing options. Trout, bass, and other native mountain fish thrive in the Linville River’s crystal clear waters.

In addition to all of the fun activities to experience in the gorge, the Linville Gorge Wilderness is also home to some of the region’s most fantastic natural displays. One of the most popular Waterfalls in Western NC, Linville Falls, is located inside the Linville Gorge Wilderness area. In addition to Linville Falls, other popular tourist destinations within the Linville Gorge Wilderness area are Wiseman’s View and Linville Caverns. Wiseman’s View is a gigantic rocky outcrop that looks out across the entire gorge giving hikers a spectacular view from inside the gorge, and of course, Linville Caverns is a truly unique Tourist Attraction in NC.
