The Moses H. Cone Manor and Memorial Park, located just off the Blue Ridge Parkway, is one of the finest, preserved mountain estates,
second only to the Biltmore Estate.
Visitors can tour the Southern Highland Craft Guild's many rooms of arts and crafts for sale and learn more about the estates’ founders, Moses and Bertha Cone. Moses Cone Park’s
13 miles of carriage trails are perfect for
NC Horseback Riding and many of local stable guides offer horseback riding on the Moses. H. Cone park's trails
surrounding the once 3,600 acre estate. Filled with two ponds and several groves and orchards, the manor's large estate is a natural wonderland; a place you simply must explore.
 Moses Cone's main home, Flat Top Manor, is a gloriously preserved white, 23 room, 13,000 square foot mansion. Filled with splendid sculptures and artwork from the Gilded Age, the home was the jewel of Moses H. and Bertha Cone. Moses Cone and his brother established the Cone Export and Commission Company in 1890, and five years following the establishment of the company, the brothers built their first cotton mill in Greensboro North Carolina. Cone soon became known for producing heavy-duty, dark denim, and the mill later became the world's leading producer of denim with more than 30 manufacturing plants. Moses Cone became fondly known as "The Denim King", and even though he acquired a vast wealth, he was a noted nature lover and conservationist.
Construction on Flat Top Manor began in 1899 after Moses and Bertha had spent the better part of the previous decade acquiring more than 3,600 acres of land in Blowing Rock. In addition to the 3,600 acres of land in Blowing Rock, the planned Cone estate included 500 acres of farmland and the entire span of neighboring Rich Mountain. The gorgeous estate was unlike any other estate or home built during the time and
featured two stocked lakes with bass and trout,
four orchards of over 32,000 apple trees, as
well as a large assortment of imported white
tailed deer. Visitors came to the Cone home from
far and near. Some noted guests of the manor were various heads of government and state politicians as well as
the notable couple, Etta and Dr. Claribel Cone (who owned an art collection full of works by Matisse, Picasso and other noted European artists). During its heyday, the mansion and grand estate was a fine example of Colonial Revival architecture.
The Moses Cone Manor now houses the Parkway Craft Center, the craft
store of the renowned Southern Highland Craft
Guild. Visitors to the home can tour the
exhibits and purchase works by southeastern
artisans from the nine Appalachian states. In
addition to tours of the home, the manor is a
great place to visit and enjoy the outdoors. Tourists love walking the paths, or enjoying a horse drawn carriage ride to the gorgeous lakes that surround the manor.
 The Moses Cone Manor is located on the
Blue Ridge Parkway between mile posts 292 and 295. Other Blue Ridge Parkway attractions like the
