
Roan Mountain is
a high mountain peak located in the Roan-Unaka portion of the Southern Appalachian Mountains which straddle the North Carolina and Tennessee state line. This gigantic mountain is renowned for its 6,285 foot

Pisgah National Forest near the top of the mountain. The highly visited Roan Mountain State Park is located
at the mountain’s northern base. The world
famous Appalachian Trail traverses across the Roan’s vast crest
within Roan Mountain State Park. Other

in the state park and provide opportunities for phenomenal long range views of the region.
Historically, Roan Mountain was a vacation hotspot in the mid 19th century. Tourists visited this beautiful mountain area for rest and relaxation and typically stayed at the
luxurious Cloudland Hotel. Today, visitors can
view the site of the old Cloudland Hotel and
learn more about its place in Roan Mountain’s
unique history. Roan Mountain is most popular
in June, specifically, the third weekend in
June, when the Roan Mountain Rhododendron Festival is in full swing and the blooming flowers are at their peak.
